My name is Martin Kreft, the new owner of Spiderban Southern Limited.
A little bit about myself: I was born and raised in Ranfurly, Central Otago, where my father, Tony, was the manager of Mclarens Transport for over 50 years.
Coming from a big sports family, I found myself taking up lawn bowls where, in 2024, I was lucky enough to represent New Zealand in the World Indoor Singles in the UK.
I finished school and went into the local butchery and after 4 years moved to Alexandra where I managed a company called Just Chicken Terrace Butchery for 15 years.
Wanting a change in life, I moved back to the Maniototo and ended up running a Dairy Calving Unit for Dairy Farm Partnership where myself and the team raised 7500 calves per year. After 4 years I moved to the Taieri Planes and worked on a local, family owned dairy farm out by the Dunedin Airport.
I started a family late in life so after becoming a father at the age of 42, I moved into Dunedin and have worked for New Zealand Corrections for the past 8 years.
That brings me to the present where, through mutual friends, I met Mike Ward, the owner of Spiderban Ashburton, and I was fortunate enough to have the chance to purchase Spiderban Southern which covers Dunedin down to Invercargill up through Central Otago to Alexandra and back through the Maniototo. I’ve been very lucky to have been paired up with one of Mike’s technicians, Jason, who has worked in the industry for many years and has been teaching me the ropes.

Spiderban was originally established in 1995, in North Canterbury and has since expanded to a network of independently owned pest control businesses operating throughout the South Island of New Zealand.
